Trips Harrachov and surroundings

Do you think you have already seen everything in Harrachov? Maybe we will surprise you! We have prepared tips for trips that are not in every tourist guide. However, the locals know them well and will be happy to recommend them to you. So pack your backpack and come with us to discover the beauties of the Krkonoše Mountains as you may not know them yet.

Behind water and peace - discover the quiet corners of Harrachov

Černý rybník

An inconspicuous but magical place known mainly to locals - that is Černý Harrachovský rybník. You will find it hidden behind a barrier at the end of the asphalt road called Huťský kout. The road to it leads past the glassworks and the local doctor's office, but it is this inconspicuous approach that makes the pond a mysterious and peaceful haven.

The pond serves a specific purpose - the water here is used to make wooden molds for the glassworks. Swimming is therefore taboo, but the magical atmosphere, the silence of the forest and the light haze over the water are definitely worth a short walk.

Giant pots

Almost everyone knows the Mumlava waterfalls, but did you know that a few meters higher up there is a natural rarity? The giant pots have been created over thousands of years thanks to water eddies that grind deep "bowls" into the bedrock.

You can find them above the Mumlava waterfalls, just go further upstream. The pots are up to 2.9 meters deep and surrounded by beautiful nature. A little adventure, a little geology - the ideal combination!

Harrachov ponds

Three historic ponds, originally founded by Count Harrach for trout farming, have come to life in the Anenské valley. Thanks to a subsidy from the Ministry of the Environment, they were restored and today serve as a beautiful natural refuge and water reservoir in the landscape.

You can find them near the Rybárna educational trail. A peaceful walk through the forest with a destination at the shiny surface of the ponds is also ideal for families with children. A place made for stopping and perceiving nature in its purest form.

Kamieńczyk Waterfall

Just a short distance across the border, in Sklarszke Poręba, lies the highest waterfall in the Polish Krkonoše Mountains. Kamieńczyk falls from a height of 27 meters into a narrow gorge surrounded by rocks - an impressive sight that will not be forgotten.

Behind its middle cascade you will also find the so-called Zlota Jama - an artificially expanded cave with the occurrence of amethysts and pegmatite. The place is made for lovers of wildlife and photography.

Adventure trails and forgotten paths - trips off the main routes

Janousek's (Terex) path

Originally a forest path intended for logging, today it attracts tourists yearning for peace. It is named after Oldřich Janoušek, a prominent worker at the Harrachov Forestry Plant and a representative of Krakonoš.

An interesting fact is the name Terex, derived from the tractor that helped with the construction here. The route offers silence, greenery and beautiful views - an ideal choice for those who want to escape the crowds.

Ručičky

The tourist crossroads with the poetic name "Ručičky" is a place from where you can set off on a number of beautiful routes. Whether you are attracted by the Source of the Labe, Dvoračky or Vosecká bouda - the decision is made here!

The place is also ideal for families - the climb here is not demanding and will reward you not only with the view, but also with the opportunity to continue further according to your taste and strength. A Harrachov crossroads that you will love.

Jára Cimrman Lighthouse

The lighthouse built in honor of the famous Czech genius Jára Cimrman is an icon of modern trips. It is located in Příchovice, near Harrachov, and the view from its observation deck at an altitude of 801 m above sea level will literally amaze you.

Inside, you will also find a stylish museum full of Cimrman jokes and curiosities. An ideal stop for those who want to combine humor, history and beautiful views in one trip.

Orle Tourist Base

The historic building from the 1860s now serves as a tourist base. It was built by the owner of the famous Carlsthal glassworks and is today an ideal place to relax or admire the night sky.

Of interest is the "Astro Trail" - a model of the solar system, and a collection of glass paperweights made using the millefiori technique. Unique not only in Poland, but also on a global scale!

Stories hidden in the mountains - knowledge that will excite you

Novosad and Son Glass Museum

One of the oldest glassworks in the Czech Republic will open the door to you not only into its history, but also into the production itself. In the museum you will find more than 5,000 exhibits that map the three-hundred-year history of glassmaking in Harrachov.

The tour is also fascinating thanks to the connection with the live operation of the glassworks. You will see how blown glass is created, and maybe you will try something yourself. A glass world that will absorb you.

Mining Museum

Want to leave the mountain trails for a while and look underground? In the Harrachov Mining Museum, you will not only find an exhibition of minerals and mining tools, but also a unique tour of a 1 km long adit.

The route leads through the classic environment of an ore mine, where an experienced guide will lead you. The temperature is around 7 °C and a helmet on your head - an experience that you will remember for a long time.

Ski Museum Harrachov

Do you love winter, skiing and history? Then you will be thrilled by the Ski Museum in Harrachov. The private collection presents the development of skiing in the Krkonoše Mountains and includes over 400 pairs of skis, including those that are more than 100 years old.

You will also find a unique 120 cm high cup for the winner of the World Ski Jumping Championships, ski jumping equipment from the 1950s and historical medals of the Harrachov club. A great stop for all winter sports fans!

Rack Railway Museum in Kořenov

A unique museum dedicated to the steepest track in our country – the rack railway from Tanvald to Kořenov. The exhibition shows not only the history and technology of this track, but also models of rack railways, locomotives and maps.

It is located in the building of the former railway station and a visit will be enjoyed by young and old alike. And if you come at Christmas, you can also look forward to a trip on a historic steam train. A technical monument that lives!

Trips that are fun - tips for the next day

Čertova hora

The Čertova hora, rising to a height of 1020 meters, is the dominant feature of Harrachov and offers activities all year round. In winter, it is a popular ski resort with diverse slopes, while in summer it attracts tourists and cyclists to its peaks with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

You can easily reach the top of Čertova hora by cable car from Harrachov, which is ideal for families with children and less fit tourists. Marked hiking trails lead from the top, for example to the Ručičky crossroads or to the Mumlava waterfalls, which are among the most beautiful in the Krkonoše Mountains.

Čerták ski jumps

For sports and adrenaline lovers, a visit to the Čerták ski jumps is an unforgettable experience. Known for hosting international ski jumping competitions, this area includes several jumps, including the mammoth one, which is among the five largest in the world.

Even when there are no competitions taking place here, it is worth taking a closer look at these impressive structures and learning more about the history of ski jumping in the local museum.

Tanvaldská rack railway

For railway enthusiasts and families with children, a ride on the Tanvaldská rack railway is a unique experience. This historic line, connecting Tanvald, Kořenov and Harrachov, is the only one of its kind in the Czech Republic and overcomes significant elevation thanks to a rack system.

En route, you will enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding landscape of the Jizera Mountains and the Krkonoše Mountains. In Kořenov you can visit the Rack Railway Museum, where you can learn more about the history and technical attractions of this line.

Museum of the Jizera Mountains in the Jizerka settlement

The Museum of the Jizera Mountains is located in the picturesque settlement of Jizerka, which is the highest settlement in the Jizera Mountains. The exhibitions present the history, nature and life of this area. The museum building from 1889 originally served as a school and today offers a glimpse into the region's past, including traditional crafts and glassmaking.

After visiting the museum, you can walk along the nature trail leading to the Bukovec peak or visit the Rašeliniště Jizerky nature reserve.

Souš Reservoir

Near Desná is the Souš Reservoir, which serves as a drinking water reservoir for the Jablonecko region. The area around the dam is ideal for cycling trips and hiking. The route around the reservoir offers a peaceful environment and beautiful views of the water area surrounded by forests.

Although swimming in the reservoir is prohibited due to the protection of the water source, a walk or bike ride around it is worth it.

Štěpánka Lookout Tower

On the Hvězda hill near Kořenova, the neo-Gothic stone lookout tower Štěpánka rises, one of the oldest in the Jizera Mountains. From a height of 24 meters, it offers magnificent views of the Krkonoše Mountains, the Jizera Mountains and Poland.
